Awesome Skillet! but too heavy for my wife.
Awesome Skillet! but too heavy for my wife.
By WriterGirl
I have been cooking for 25 years and Lodge never lets me down. This is my favorite one. Cooked like a dream and cleaned up in a few quick minutes. I am so happy I purchased this. This is a great, sturdy and well made product. Lodge Cast-Iron Skillet is an amazing product for cooking up bacon, eggs & pancakes. This 12-inch pan is a great size for a family of 4. You can cook about 4-5 slices of bacon, 4 - 5 pancakes or 4 eggs in this skillet. If your family is less than 4, I recommend Sugiyama 12 Inch wide pan. This will also meet your requirement.
My only word of caution is that while it is nice to have the silicone handle for lifting when the pan is hot the handle of the skillet can slip out of the silicone if you don't grip it tightly. This happened to my wife and it nearly hit her foot which would not have been good. This Skillet might be heavy a bit for my wife.
Other than that it is a perfect product. Highly recommended!

Great price for this cast iron pan
Great price for this cast iron pan
By K. Harp
I purchased this skillet because on our latest camping trip I noticed that we really could have used one more pan. There were 2 other cast iron skillets that other folks had brought with them so I decided it was time to invest in one for our family. I went home and did some research on cast iron pans and found that Lodge was the only brand made in America. Of course I turned to Amazon to check out reviews and prices. Reviews on the brand looked good and I couldn't find a better price of the 12 in skillet than getting the skillet/silicone handle combo here on Amazon.
Pan was purchased and it arrived in a timely manner and in perfect condition. I followed the tips i read here in the reviews and seasoned the pan 4 or 5 more times myself with coconut oil in an 500 oven for an hour, allowing the pan to cool in the oven each time. A couple days later I cooked a pound of bacon in my newly seasoned pan and it cooked up wonderfully. Clean up was a breeze, just a little warm water on a burner, barely any scrubbing, dried with a towel and then over the burner on low and that was it.
Overall I'm highly satisfied with this purchase. The pan will be a great addition to our camping trips. I actually plan on using this pan in our kitchen on a regular basis. I'm so tired of teflon/non stick coatings flaking off after a year or two. Eventually I'll be purchasing the 10" and 8" pans as well. Yes cast iron does require a little more care than your non stick pans but I think its worth it.

 Better than cutting edge technology
Better than cutting edge technology

This pan is fabulous. I, finally, can cook crispy chicken, fish and french fries. I bought the 8 inch skillet, as well. This is , honestly, the most non stick cookware I have ever used- and I have an entire set of high end Circulon. Eggs slip out with ease and without any residue in the pan. Omelettes, actually, come out like heaven. I seasoned both pans according to another reviewer's instructions. I slathered them inside and out with Crisco, placed them upside down in a 500 degree oven for two hours with cookie sheets beneath to catch drips. Then, let them cool in the oven over night. I repeated the process the next night. I'm anxious to use the lid, which I also bought, to prepare some steaks in the manner another reviewer suggested. I'm having great fun rediscovering cooking. BTW, another reviewer complained that the pan's interior is very rough. I do not think that is the case at all. Good luck! Have fun!
